Delivery Day

To begin with, DO NOT jump behind the wheel and turn the key. Let your dealer get in and demonstrate your new car's proper operation. Carefully comb over the car to double check that everything is immaculate. After you are satisfied with your new vehicle's appearance and operation seek out the service department for further instruction. Befriend the service department; utilize their customer service skills to benefit you.

It's a bad sign if on the day of your vehicle's delivery your salesperson doesn't offer to inspect the vehicle along side you and explain the function of each and every control switch on the car. Make sure and require they provide you with some sort of presentation before you even step in the car. The location of controls such as the trunk / hood release switch, air conditioning, sound system, and tire jack may be different in every vehicle. In addition to this presentation of your new car you should receive the following:

* The owner's manual.

* Vehicle warranty.

* Tire warranty.

* The purchase or lease agreement (copy).

* Vehicle registration.

* The title (copy).

* At least two sets of keys, maybe more.

* Procedures for the service department.
   Learn how appointments are handled and who to contact if you need service.

* Have you switched your insurance? Do so before you drive off the lot.

Although the general focus of this web site is on the buying process, the car ownership period can have its own set of pitfalls. The money you save by getting a great deal on the purchase and financing erodes quickly when you find that you are overpaying for necessities such as auto insurance, maintenance and repairs. Remember these expenses are ongoing, their total cost can often approach the initial purchase price of the vehicle! So take your time and enjoy your new car!
