The Dealer Test

Walking onto a car dealer lot can be an overwhelming experience. But before you go to the frontline, read about what you need to do at the dealership to ensure a sound car buying experience.

The issue of whether to purchase your vehicle from a dealer is very important. Price, vehicle satisfaction, trust, and respect are all key components to this pressing issue.

If you don't feel the relationship developing between you and your dealership simply pass on your expectations to a General Manager and give him/her the chance to rectify the situation. Then go through the following questions and if you can't respond, "yes" to each and every question take your business somewhere else:

* Do the dealer and his or her team of people listen to me?

* Are they prompt, courteous, and thorough in responding to my needs?

* Does the physical appearance of the showroom, team, and products convey a feeling of professionalism and quality?

* Do I get the sense that the salesperson has been properly trained and really knows what he or she is talking about?

* Am I made to feel that the dealership and its team really care about my concerns?

The bottom line is - you control the deal. If at any point you feel pressured or that your concerns aren't being met, walk away. There is no reason you should have to suffer through the ordeal with a rude and inconsiderate salesperson. However, if you are at a stand-up dealer, you do your research and you remain calm, cool and collected, chances are you'll get the sweet deal you were looking for and you work will have paid off.
